Offshore Coffee Co.
Ross and Jack have been business partners since 2019 and have been friends twice as long, having grown up together in Monmouth County.
Offshore Coffee Co. started in 2019 in Jack's mom's basement, roasting on an unbranded machine with no manual, experience, or safety regulations. Our friends and family were our gracious first customers, and their feedback gave us the (perhaps false) confidence to keep going.
By the end of the following year we had opened our first café on Brighton Avenue in Long Branch and moved the roasting into a commercial space in Ocean Township. We've since opened in Belmar and Asbury Park, partnered with Monmouth University, and moved into a larger roasting facility in Tinton Falls.
Now, we live and breathe every facet of the specialty coffee industry. We continue to grow our own cafés across Monmouth County and the Jersey Shore, provide small-batch roasts to our favorite restaurants and cafés across the state and beyond, and help other entrepreneurs actualize the same dream that we had over five years ago through consulting and wholesale partnerships.
Every bean we serve is still roasted by us here in New Jersey — that hasn't changed since the basement.
How we got here
2019 — The basement
Our founders Jack Campbell and Ross MacKay bought an unbranded roaster off
Temu and set it up on a collapsible table in Jack's mom's basement with an
exhaust hose rigged out the window. Messing around each night after working
their day jobs, they figured out how the machine behaved by running batch
after batch and adjusting from there. The coffee went to friends and family,
but once they got the hang of it, they started looking for ways to bring
their experiments to more people.
2020 — Brighton Avenue
Offshore Coffee Co. opened its first café location in Long Branch, three
months before the most difficult time for new businesses, especially those
built around hospitality and community. We survived, and in these first four
years, the Offshore family grew. Customers became friends, morning routines
began and ended at 57 Brighton, and Offshore's commitment to sourcing high
quality coffee and ingredients became our lifestyle.
2020 — Ocean Township
We moved out of mom's basement and into our first commercial roastery,
expelling clouds of chaff into the parking lot and roasting by sight and
smell. Although it was nothing fancy, our first designated space for roasting
sharpened our skills and allowed us to roast more coffee, because with Long
Branch open, our circle of friends was growing rapidly.
May 2024 — Belmar
With a desire to go further down the shore, our second café brought us to the
vibrant main street of Belmar, where we continued to make a name for
ourselves and perfect our craft.
April 2025 — Asbury Park
We wanted to be right on the beach and in the center of it all; our third
café lives in the heart and heat of Convention Hall, with views of the ocean
and the soul of historic Asbury Park in our walls.
June 2025 — Tinton Falls
We moved into a new roasting facility, where our team experiments, develops
profiles, and roasts on our energy-efficient Loring roaster. The roastery is
also home to our Training Lab, where our team of baristas, wholesale
partners, and greater community come together for training, enrichment, and
education.
September 2025 — Monmouth University
Deepening our footprint in our hometown of Long Branch, our partnership with
Monmouth University brings Offshore closer to the students, faculty, and
staff on campus in West Long Branch.
Monmouth Square — opening soon
Our next stop: new development in the heart of Eatontown.
Michael Rosas, Director of Coffee
Michael sources green coffee, develops the roast profiles our customers have come to love, and is responsible for making sure the coffee is extracted properly once it reaches the bar.
In August 2025, he became certified as a Q Grader at The Lab at Royal Coffee New York, a credential issued by the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) and the Coffee Quality Institute (CQI). Similar to the wine industry's sommelier certification, the Q Grader certification establishes that a palate is calibrated against an international community qualified to assess Arabica coffee. Earning this certification takes 22 separate examinations; with an under 50% pass rate, there are less than 500 Q Graders in the United States and only a handful in New Jersey. Go Michael.
In practice, Michael's expertise ensures that the coffee we serve exceeds the mark of excellence at every stage, from sourcing to roasting, and ending with the training and mentorship of our barista team.
How we source
Coffee is everywhere, and it's easy to forget how much work happens even before green coffee reaches our roaster. At Offshore, it's a part of our mission to work with importers who have a relationship with the farmers and processors that make these roasts possible. Grab a map and we'll show you where we've sourced beans, often with the names of the family farmers who have perfected their cultivation of each variety and processing method. From our single origins to our house blends, our intention is to highlight the intrinsic qualities and exceptionality of the coffee we source.
We buy through importers we trust and return to season after season: Cafe Imports in Minneapolis, Hacea Coffee in Anaheim, Falcon Coffee in Houston, and Royal New York in New Jersey.
In our cafes
Coffee is complex: a ritual, a science experiment, and an art. At our cafés, our baristas are practicing the art of espresso every day. Espresso is dialed in as the conditions change, single origins rotate with the season, and innovative specialty drinks drop each month. Our team is at the heart of what we do, sharing our love for coffee and bringing that passion and knowledge to our customers on the floor each morning.
The kitchens at Long Branch and Belmar serve a breakfast and lunch menu built with local purveyors — Palmer's Quality Meats in Neptune and The Block in Long Branch — alongside pastries from Pop's Corner in Point Pleasant, Purple Glaze in Asbury Park, and Benchmark Bread in Little Silver.
The people behind the bar
Our baristas are trained holistically, beginning with coffee education that brings knowledge of agriculture, terroir, and processing to the practical stage of espresso machine operation and drink making, cultivating skills that rival mixology. Brought to life by each barista's individual expression of hospitality, passions, and personality, our people make Offshore what it is.
Our leadership team works the counter alongside our baristas, and baristas who started on bar have gone on to manage our stores and to open new ones. Out of all our growth, that's what we're most proud of.
Where to find us
We have three cafés in Monmouth County, New Jersey: Long Branch, Belmar, and Asbury Park, with a fourth on the way at Monmouth Square in Eatontown, NJ. Offshore Coffee is also served at Monmouth University in West Long Branch through our campus partnership. All of our coffee is roasted at our Tinton Falls roastery.

Alongside our cafés, we roast for wholesale clients across the tri-state area. When you work with us, roasted coffee is just the beginning. We train the barista teams serving our coffee, set up partners with cutting-edge gear that we test and geek out on in our coffee lab, and build private label programs for clients building their brand from scratch.

Frequently asked
Where does the name Offshore come from?
offshore, adverb: from the shore, seaward.
Offshore takes inspiration from the beach and the people who call the Jersey Shore home. Our homeplace draws people who are creative, expressive, and joyous, people who live and breathe what they love, from the most simple daily rituals to the perfection of their craft.
Offshore Coffee Co. is our contribution through the things we love: coffee, food, and community.
Do you roast your own coffee?
Yes. Every bean we serve is roasted in house at our Tinton Falls roastery.
What is a Q Grader, and why does it matter to my cup of coffee?
A Q Grader is a certified coffee taster whose palate is calibrated against an international community of graders qualified to assess Arabica coffee, similar to a sommelier certification in wine. Our Director of Coffee, Michael Rosas, is Q Grader certified, which means the person buying our green coffee, developing the roast profile, and training our staff is trained with a calibrated palate that meets an international standard of excellence.
Who do you buy your green coffee from?
Sourcing high quality green coffee is of the utmost importance when it comes to delivering high quality roasts. We only work with importers we trust, including Cafe Imports in Minneapolis, Hacea Coffee in Anaheim, Falcon Coffee in Houston, and Royal New York, close to home in New Jersey.
Do you serve food?
Long Branch and Belmar serve an all-day breakfast and lunch menu built in partnership with local purveyors and high quality ingredients, in addition to pastries from local bakeries. Some of our partners include The Block, Palmer's Quality Meats, Benchmark Bread, Pop's Corner, Purple Glaze, and AU Honey.
Do you sell the beans you brew?
Yes. We roast everything on our state-of-the-art Loring roaster in Tinton Falls. Bags and subscriptions are available in the cafés and here on the site.
Do you offer wholesale or private label?
Yes. We offer all of the blends and single origins available in our shop for wholesale clients and private labeling. Wholesale clients also gain access to espresso machine service, barista training, café setup consulting, and water filtration. Get in touch through the Work with us section above.
Do you offer coffee classes to the public?
